EMIL SCHUMACHER
PAINTINGS FROM
THE COLLECTION
- NEW HANGING
Especially during the year of the artist’s 100th birthday, the large collection of the Emil Schumacher Foundation will be showcased as the center of our exhibitions. Coinciding with the 2nd Hagen Museum Night on May 11th, we will present a new hanging of Schumacher’s late works from the 1980s and 1990s. The magical color “landscapes” are characterized by the artist’s expressive gestures and the intense luminance of the colors. They speak of his unbroken creative power.
The late work is also marked by visual signs and figurations, which the artist repeats and varies in their sketch-like simplification, yet without any storytelling composition. Signs, merely feigning any legibility, remain a part of the abstract painting.
